The storm triggered landslides and flooding due to over 300 mm of rain in just 24 hours. The eastern and central regions were hit hardest, with thousands evacuated to schools and public shelters. Schools were closed, train services suspended, and the Colombo Stock Exchange halted trading as the storm continued to move across the island.

India responded quickly by launching Operation Sagar Bandhu, sending emergency relief materials and humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka.
